Lofoten Companion is a free travel app for Lofoten, made by Amelie Rasch, c/o POSTFLEX PFX-459-920, Emsdettener Straße 10, 48268 Greven, Germany ("we"), a private person. These terms apply when you use it.
1. Information, not a guarantee
The app brings together information from open data sources, public services and our own research: places and their opening hours, hikes, ferry departures and cancellations, road messages, weather forecasts and warnings, waves, tides, daylight and the chance of northern lights.
This information can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Live information can arrive late or not at all, and information saved on your phone for use without signal may be old; the app shows its age. Places can close, paths can change and ferries can be cancelled at short notice.
Before you rely on it, check the official sources, especially for safety and travel plans:
- roads: the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen), at vegvesen.no or on 175;
- ferries and boats: the operator of the line;
- weather and warnings: MET Norway;
- avalanches: Varsom's full forecast at varsom.no. The app shows Varsom's forecast for the region Lofoten og Vesterålen in winter, which doesn't say whether a particular route is safe;
- landslides and floods: varsom.no, which the app does not show.
2. Your safety outdoors
Lofoten's mountains and sea are serious terrain, and the weather changes quickly. A hike's difficulty, distance, climb and route in the app are guidance, not a promise that a path is open, safe or suitable for you. Wave descriptions for surf beaches are not a safety rating, and the chance of northern lights is an estimate.
You decide what you do and are responsible for your own safety: check the conditions, bring the right gear and turn back in time. The app is not an emergency service and does not send your position to anyone. In an emergency, call 113 (medical), 112 (police) or 110 (fire).
3. Other services
The app links to other apps and websites, like your map app for directions, ferry operators, booking pages and Visit Lofoten's event calendar. We don't control them, and their own terms apply.
4. Data and credits
The app's sources, credits and licences are listed under More → Data sources and licences. The place data is derived from OpenStreetMap and published as an open data download under the Open Database License. Our own texts and photos, and the app itself, may not be copied without our permission, except where their licence allows it.
5. Using the app fairly
Use the app for your own travels. Don't try to disrupt it or its server, and don't download its data automatically in bulk; the open data download is there for that.
6. Corrections
If something is wrong, tell us through "Something wrong?" on the place's page or at hei@lofotencompanion.com. We check reports, but we can't promise to change everything we're told.
7. Liability
The app is free and provided as it is. We take care that its information is right, but we cannot guarantee that it is complete, correct, current or always available.
We are liable without limitation for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act. Otherwise, because the app is free, we are not liable for damage caused by slight negligence, including loss from relying on the app's information or from the app being unavailable. Your rights as a consumer under the law of the country you live in stay unaffected.
8. Changes
We may change, pause or end the app. We may also change these terms for the future, for example when the app gains features or the law changes. Each version applies from the date at its top; the current one is always at https://lofotencompanion.com/terms, linked from the app.
9. Law
These terms are governed by German law, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live.
